Chubby Knuckle Choir

Music fans are looking for something new; to get something unexpected in their music experience. The Chubby Knuckle Choir hailing from Central Texas offers such an experience.

The name Chubby Knuckle Choir came from former bass man, and original member Curtis Farley in a comedic moment, while working in Twisted Twig Studio with current members Perry Lowe and Rory Smith. Their style ranges from Americana to R&B or in a term Acid Funk-Soulgrass.

With thoughtfully crafted tunes and lyrics that catch you off guard with their clarity and brutal honesty, the band delivers quality entertainment without any pretense and takes things back to the days of accessible, self-deprecating live shows.

With a fresh approach but continuing the formula of unique instrumentation, all are singer-songwriters and multi-instrumentalists who come from varying musical and geographical backgrounds, which is embraced by the band to encourage diversity of thought in their music. “It’s still a marriage of all genres,” explains Lowe, who sings, plays guitar, drums and keys, while Smith describes it as “music from a country that isn’t around … but should be.”

The Chubby Knuckle Choir has shared the stage with the likes of Shinyribs, Radney Foster, Jason Eady, Courtney Patton, The Peterson Brothers, Ruthie Foster and Michael Martin Murphy to name a few.

Chubby Knuckle Choir officially formed in 2009 in Bastrop, Texas. The band currently consists of Perry Lowe, Rory Smith, Cody Justin King and Bill Stephens.

Nick & Paige

We met in Chicago, the spring of 2011. After our first rehearsal, we found ourselves nestled up at a whiskey bar in Wicker Park. We bonded over old soul tunes and became instant best friends. Singing songs side by side night after night for a couple of years led to the kind of intimacy I always dreamed about... we exchanged quiet glances and I grew to love this curly headed man with all of my being. Through our love and songs, we found ourselves in heavy times, our hearts called us to Austin, Texas in the fall of 2013 to tend to family. We left behind what felt like our entire lives but cultivated new found forever friendships and humble beginnings made for great song-writing. We recorded our self-produced EP in 2014 and later a full band EP in 2016. In our few years in Austin we’ve endured our greatest losses and are songs echo the sentiments of survival and hope. Our sound has thumbprints of soul, spiritual and gospel influences, harmonies and hard truths sang with guts and grit. Our greatest influences are our heavenly parents, Tracy Boettcher & Veronica DeChausse, and though one was a singer and one swung a hammer they enforced the importance of humility and humor, integrity, honesty and soul. We sing songs because we have to, we carry on phrases some couldn’t finish and are moved to share with you what really shakes us at our core.

Jennifer Jackson - Paths Record Release Show

About the new album -
"I wrote these songs during a rugged road of a time. They have some common threads; the desire, the journey, the effort to get to a place that feels like home. And, the memories of people and experiences collected along the way.

I chose the title PATHS because I feel it’s a personal way of describing one’s journey. A path is made just by footsteps that leave their prints on the ground as they’re moving on.

I met Brad Jones in NYC about 20 years ago, having been connected by our mutual publisher. Soon after, he invited me down to Nashville to record a song or two at his new studio, Alex the Great, to see if we liked working together. He called in a couple friends to join us; Micky Grimm on drums and Pat Sansone on keys, guitars and backup vocals. Brad played bass, the chemistry was magical, and two songs turned into my 12-song record, BIRDS (Parasol Records USA , Ulftone Records, EUR).

Since BIRDS, I’ve made 10 more albums, left well-loved NYC and lived 10+ years in Austin, TX, traveled around the world, played with many fine musicians, gotten older, acquired some knowledge and perspective, lost some loved ones and continued my seeking.

This Spring, when I sent Brad my new song demos, he replied with great enthusiasm and excitement to record them together. We talked back and forth about production and arrangement ideas, discussed instrumentation, and finally, booked 4 days at Alex the Great.

Bruce Smith Band

"Just as Buddy lives on in his music and the lives he touched and continues to touch, that spirit fills Bruce Smith's song "'59 Stratocaster", a poignant tribute to Buddy's beautiful spirit and promise."
-Maria Elena Holly

Austin-based alternative Americana-roots singer and songwriter, Bruce Smith is “rockin’ ‘til the wheels fall off, come hell or high water.” Bruce believes that “if you have someone or something you love, you do whatever it takes,” so he writes about life, love, redemption and salvation… Bruce is on the verge to become the first Americana act signed to Hacienda International Records, home of the legends of Conjunto and Tejano. He has played at iconic venues around the U.S including, Bottom Line in New York City, the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, the Birchmere in Alexandria, VA, festivals on the Boston Common, mainstays at Austin's Saxon Pub and Antone's. He has opened for Gary Clark, Jr., Nils Lofgren, Robert Earl Keen, Charlie Sexton among a host of others. Bruce Smith’s performances have been touted by The Washington Post as “powerful folk songs with a conscience,” and praised by Performing Songwriter Magazine, while Austin’s top talent booker calls him “the fastest rising star in Austin since Los Lonely Boys.” The band consists of the man behind it all, Bruce Smith (singer/songwriter), Spencer Jarmon (lead guitar), Zeke Jarmon (bass guitar), Conner Church (drummer), and Grammy Award winner Randy Caballero (keyboards).

Jack T. Carr

Jack T Carr with his tenor sax and digital rhythm section transforms a solo saxophone routine to the sound of a four piece jazz band. The pre-recorded rhythm section, composed mainly of piano, acoustic bass, and light drums, augment the smooth tone of the live tenor sax.

Jack entertains with song selections taken more often than not from the Great American Songbook. In addition to jazz standards, classic blues, country, and pop are also interpreted in an original fashion and all may be included in an evening of music with Jack T. Carr.

Jack has entertained us before, if you missed him last time, now’s your chance for a really fun evening with your friends and family. You will be singing along with all his music!

Smith & Webster

Will Webster is among the few young musicians today who did not grow up in the 1920s that you will swear must be lying about his age. Crooked mountain reels careen out of the fiddle cradled in his elbow. East Texas rags take on a new life played through the 5-string banjo with his bottle-neck slide. The range and depth of Will's art do old-fashioned justice to venerable music from the likes of Sam Chatmon, John Carson, and D.H. Williams. Born way up in the mountain state of Utah, he brought the best of the wild west down to the little town of Austin, Texas, which is now proud to have him call River City home.

The Moreno Boys are made up of four cousins from Bulverde, TX and surrounding areas. The band plays their original Texas Country Music and covers some of their classic country favorites along with some classic rock. Their music really moves the crowd and spreads energy throughout whichever venue may be housing them that night. I’ve experienced first hand how their emotions and dedication can be felt through every song they perform. The boys are born entertainers, and natural musicians.

Dusty Neuman

Dusty Neuman is the writer of the hit song, "You Don't Have To Be Lonely” recorded and released by Josh Ward, who took the song to #1 on both the TRRR and CDX Traction Texas charts in January 2017. Dusty promptly recorded a short, but impactful song collection of more original music which he released in May 2018: his acclaimed Brighteyes EP. Dusty's inspired songwriting reflects life in rural southeast Texas where he was born and raised. It's an environment embodied by a down home, folky character that his music justly portrays. The highly anticipated release of Dusty's first full length album is set for early 2019. Dusty still calls the small town of his birth "home," regularly touring Texas and beyond to share his music and natural, good humor with the rest of the world.
