Chubby Knuckle Choir

  • The Front Room 116 Main St Smithville, TX (map)

Music fans are looking for something new; to get something unexpected in their music experience. The Chubby Knuckle Choir hailing from Central Texas offers such an experience.

The name Chubby Knuckle Choir came from former bass man, and original member Curtis Farley in a comedic moment, while working in Twisted Twig Studio with current members Perry Lowe and Rory Smith. Their style ranges from Americana to R&B or in a term Acid Funk-Soulgrass.

With thoughtfully crafted tunes and lyrics that catch you off guard with their clarity and brutal honesty, the band delivers quality entertainment without any pretense and takes things back to the days of accessible, self-deprecating live shows.

With a fresh approach but continuing the formula of unique instrumentation, all are singer-songwriters and multi-instrumentalists who come from varying musical and geographical backgrounds, which is embraced by the band to encourage diversity of thought in their music. “It’s still a marriage of all genres,” explains Lowe, who sings, plays guitar, drums and keys, while Smith describes it as “music from a country that isn’t around … but should be.”

The Chubby Knuckle Choir has shared the stage with the likes of Shinyribs, Radney Foster, Jason Eady, Courtney Patton, The Peterson Brothers, Ruthie Foster and Michael Martin Murphy to name a few.

Chubby Knuckle Choir officially formed in 2009 in Bastrop, Texas. The band currently consists of Perry Lowe, Rory Smith, Cody Justin King and Bill Stephens.
