Thawind Mills has a unique story to tell, inspired by his upbringing and his colorful life as a professional touring musical entertainer. After selling his house in South Austin in 2014, Thawind began his life on the road where he travels across the United States performing. Just a few of his talents are loop-artist, comedian, and storyteller. Thawind can be found performing at festivals, wineries, nursing homes, veteran benefits, children's hospital, and so much more. His music is somehow familiar and can leave the listener wrapped in a sonic sound blanket of memory and emotion. Regardless of how his music grabs you, a performance by him might be the most genuine thing you've heard in a very long time. Described as authentic to the core with his clever marriage of well crafted songs, harmonious lyrical expression and exciting guitar playing, he creates a beautiful listening experience. His music catalog is eclectic in genres – which includes rock, reggae, blues, classical, Americana, rockabilly, swing and funk, to 50's doo-wop, Spanish, metal and soul. He performs solo on acoustic guitar as well as with a full-band, and he specializes in loop artistry and storytelling for intimate crowds. He has released seven studio albums to date and has written hundreds of songs since he began playing music as a young child. Thawind acquired his strong work ethic from facing challenges in his early life head on. Thawind was born in Irving, Texas in 1975, and after being abandoned and becoming a ward of the court by the state, he was adopted in Austin by a foster guardian in the 1980's. As a hyperactive child, music, entertainment, and creating were his go-to aids and passions. After earning his G.E.D., receiving a scholarship for writing, and while paying for the remainder of his education working as a stonemason, Thawind went from being a high school dropout with a library card to a builder/musician following his passion. Thawind ran an audio/video production business in South Austin for twelve years while building custom stonework and performing. His varied interests included music, art, SFX makeup, jewelry, screen printing, building, glass blowing and working with others. Over time, he realized something was missing in his life – love. "After this realization I sold my house, my business, and all my worldly possessions. Then, I bought a Winnebago and I’ve been on the road making music, jewelry, and searching for that one thing ever since," Thawind said.
Thawind's show is for all ages and anyone looking to be uplifted. While he is proud of his ingenuity and work as a stonemason, bringing laughter and happiness to his audiences means the most to him. This is what keeps Thawind fulfilled as a traveling professional entertainer, and you can hear it in his music and see it in how he presents himself.
"I think what sets me apart from others is that I truly love what I do, and you cannot fake sincerity on stage or in living life," Thawind said. "I truly love my life, and I'm happy to make laughter happen."
His current full-length studio album "Delirious Love Symphony" is an emotional walk-thru the progression of love, covering the highs and depressions of it; how it transforms people and the humor it sometimes takes to overcome it. While performing these songs on the road, a spark was lit and the creation of his next album "Everyday Fantastic" occurred. "I'm always writing and scheming about songs", Thawind said. As a multi-instrumentalist, he finds side projects the best outlet for creativity and writing. When not on the road, playing bass in his side project 2BrownieComa is the perfect situation to write and sing about his love for candy and funky fun music. A ten song album entitled, "Sugar Buzz" is currently in the works with his long-time band mates. Between the studio and the road, he has found himself in some great venues with fantastic people and perfect opportunities to learn and hone his song-craft. His relentless gigging has shown that his home is the stage, and his satisfaction is an entertained audience.
